The Deposit-and-Run Scam: How Signal Channels Lose Their IB Commissions

The most expensive member in your VIP channel is the one who deposited once. Here's the pattern, the math, and the fix.

Updated August 2026 · AffLocker Team

The pattern

Your channel is free to join — the member just has to open an account with your partner broker and deposit. That's the deal that makes broker-funded channels work: the trader gets your signals without paying you a cent, and the broker pays you from the IB program while they trade.

So a trader signs up through your link. Deposits $250. Sends you the screenshot, gets the invite, joins VIP.

Four days later the account is empty. Not from trading — from a withdrawal. They kept the access, your rebates went to zero, and the screenshot they sent you is still technically real.

Now multiply it. The trick travels: one member tells another that the "minimum deposit" only needs to exist for a day, and within a month a meaningful slice of your VIP list is people whose accounts hold nothing. You're paying for signal delivery, chart time and support for an audience generating no IB volume at all.

Why screenshots can't fix it

Most channel owners verify joins by hand: ask for a screenshot or an account number, eyeball it, send the invite. Three problems.

The information you need — is this account under my link, is it funded right now — lives in your broker partner portal. The enforcement you need lives in Telegram. Nothing connects the two by default, and the gap is exactly where the deposit-and-run happens.

What verification should actually check

Whether you do this manually or with software, a join request is only verified when all three are true:

  1. Attribution. The account UID sits under your affiliate link in the partner portal — not just at the same broker.
  2. Funding. The account holds at least your minimum active balance today, not on the day of the screenshot.
  3. Persistence. The balance stays above your floor for as long as the member stays in the channel — which means the check has to repeat, forever.

The third one is the killer. Verification isn't a gate you pass once; for a broker-funded channel it's a standing condition, like a paying subscriber's card staying valid.

Automating it

This is the specific job AffLocker was built for. The pieces:

The result isn't just recovered commissions. It changes member behavior: when access visibly depends on a maintained balance, the deposit-and-run stops being worth attempting.

Stop verifying screenshots

Connect your broker portal, set your minimum balance, and let the bot enforce it. Free with partner brokers.

FAQ

What is a deposit-and-run in a Telegram VIP channel?

A trader deposits with your partner broker to unlock VIP access, then withdraws the full amount days later — keeping the access while your IB commissions stop. One person doing it is annoying; the pattern spreading through a channel is what kills broker-funded groups.

How do I verify a member deposited under my affiliate link?

Check your broker partner portal for the account UID the member gives you, and confirm the account sits under your link with a real balance. Manually that means portal logins for every join request; AffLocker automates the same check against your live client list.

Can Telegram bots see broker deposits?

Not by themselves. Telegram bots only see Telegram. To act on deposits and withdrawals a bot needs a data path into your broker partner portal, which is what AffLocker Sync provides.

Should I kick members automatically or manually?

Both are defensible. Automatic enforcement protects channels with hundreds of members while you sleep. If you prefer judgment calls, use a policy that flags the violation and messages the member instead — the point is that you find out the moment it happens, not weeks later.
